I really love my Big Shot and I look for any way that I can to use it when I make something. For this birthday card, I folded my Whisper White card-stock in half and placed the fold near the edge of the cutting blade on the Top Notes die. I made sure it didn't go all the way past the edge of the blades so that the fold would still be there, but it would be cut a little by the blades. Then I ran the VersaMarker along the edge of the card and embossed it with Silver EP.
The flowers are done using Pretty in Pink punched out with the Scallop Circle punch. I sponged them a little with Pretty in Pink ink and then clipped them towards the center to make the flower petals. The centers are DSP from Love Stories Simply Scrappin' Kit and punched out with the Boho Blossoms punch. The leaves are from Love Stories, also, and punched out with the Small Oval punch, folded in half and run through the crimper at and angle. The background for the card and the tag is the same paper as the leaves.
For the tag, I inked up some Whisper White card-stock with VersaMark ink and then embossed with Silver EP. I did three layers of the embossing. Then I inked up the greeting from Sincere Solutations with VersaMark ink and heated up the EP again. Then I stamped the greeting into the hot EP. The VersaMark ink keeps the embossing powder from sticking to the stamp. I then punched the greeting out with the Key Tag Punch. The faux metal tag still looked kind of plain, so I punched a couple of pieces out of the same DSP that I used for the leaves and background to layer behind the tag.
I've always wanted to try this faux metal technique but was afraid to try it for fear it wouldn't work. To be honest, it didn't work the first time I tried it with this one because I didn't have the EP hot enough. So I put another layer of EP on, melted it and then held the heat gun over the strip to keep it heated up while I picked up my stamp. Then I quickly turned off the heat gun and stamped the greeting. It worked perfectly this time.
Give it a try. It's not really as hard as it sounds. And it makes a great addition to your card or scrapbook page.
