Making a plaid background in MDS

When I started my photo album in "My Digital Studio", I chose the page layouts with the Sunny Days Designer Kit. But I needed to add some pages to my album since there weren't enough pre-designed pages to make the 22 page minimum for an album. So I created some of my own designs. This is one of them.

For the background, there was a paper with a diagonal slant to it, but it didn't look quite right. So I added another layer of the same paper, rotated it 90 degrees and lowered the opacity to 50%. Very quick and easy way to make a plaid from stripes. I also added some stamping over the photos to give it a different look so that it wasn't so plain.

The nice thing about doing this on a digital page is that if you decide that you don't like it, you can remove it. With paper scrapbooking, you can't. I'm not saying that this will totally replace my paper scrapbooking. But I can sure do things here that I probably wouldn't do with the paper one. I know I will have both paper and digital scrapbooks. They each have their advantages and I love doing both.

Another nice thing about My Digital Studio is that you can individual pages printed out to add to an existing scrapbook or you can have a whole album printed up. There's a choice of three different types of covers, too: the photo cover, the linen cover or the leather-bound cover. For my album, I've chosen the photo cover. Once I get it ordered and get it back, I will post a photo of the finished album.

Be sure to check back tomorrow to see the cute card I made for one of my granddaughters for her birthday. Just a hint. It's done with punches.

Embossing with MDS

This is a page I did for my first photo album in My Digital Studio. You will notice that I have some embossing at the top of the page. I am going to show you how to get the embossing effect in My Digital Studio. It takes a little work but is well worth the effort.

The first step is to place your stamp where you want it and then resize it to the size you want it. Make this layer white. While it's highlighted (like above) hit Ctrl+C to copy. Then hit Ctrl+Shift+V to paste in place. Hit the down arrow key twice and hit the right arrow key twice.

Because my background is a light blue, I made the shadow a darker blue, in this case Tempting Turquoise. Now you can see how the two layers are in slightly different place and it looks like a white shadow on the blue stamp. Now hit Ctrl+Shift+V again. Your stamp will now be pasted in the original spot again. On this layer, match your color to the background layer. Move this layer down one and right one space.

And, waalaa! You have your embossed image on a digital page.

Stampin' Up!'s Pop-up Cake die

Scallop Border Video

Well, it took longer than I thought it would trying to figure out how to put a video into my post. But I finally got it worked out. Here is the tutorial that I promised showing how to put a scalloped border on the heart. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think of it.

How to make leaves

As I was trying to figure out what to stamp last night, I decided to do something with my punches. I love to play with the punches and see what I can come up with. When I made the leaves for this flower, though, I decided to try something different. I had put some glitter in the middle of the flower and I wanted to try it on the leaves, too, to see how it would look. After doing it, I decided that I really liked it.

To make the background for this card, I marked the lines on the back with a pencil and then used my paper cutter and my stylus to score the lines. Then I brushed some Taken With Teal ink on the creases to make them stand out some more. The flowers also looked a little plain, so I sponged More Mustard on the edges to give them a little more color. Then, of course, I put some glitter in the middle of the small flower. Using the Tombow Multipurpose glue, I also put some glitter on the little dots under the words.

Now to the technique of how to make leaves!

Again, using the paper cutter and the stylus, I scored a line about 1/2 inch from the edge of the cardstock.



Fold the card stock on the scored line. Then, using the small oval punch, put the card stock into the punch almost to the center so that it looks like you are punching half of an oval and punch it out.



Then run that through the crimper at an angle and with it still folded. This gives it the look of the veins on the leaf.



Now open it up and you have your leaf. I put 2-way glue in the grooves of the leaf and put some glitter on it to give it some sparkle, as in the card above. Or you can leave it plain as it is here.

I've seen many cute ideas  for making things with the  Stampin' Up! punches and I'm going to give some of them a try. So make sure you come back to see what the next punch project is!

How to make scissors

OK, yesterdaey I told you that I would show you how to make the scissors on my scrapbook page. So here goes.

Here are the supplies you will need.

• Word Window Punch
• Small Oval Punch
• Large Oval Punch
• Basic Black CS
• Brushed Gold CS
• Metallic Eyelets
• Crop-a-dile
• 2-Way Glue Pen (not shown)

First you punch your small oval. Leave some room around the edges (you'll see why in a minute).

Now center that hole in the center of the large punch and punch that out. Make two of these ovals.

Now punch two pieces out with the Word Window Punch from the Brushed Gold CS.

Using the 2-Way Glue Pen, put a little bit of glue on the end of the gold pieces and glue the black opened ovals to them.

Line the two sections up and punch the hole for the eyelet. Put the eyelet in the hole and spread them apart like you're opening up scissors.

Then using the Crop-a-dile, set the eyelet to hold the pieces together.
